NEED A DIFFERENT PATH?

Not every event belongs in a quick online policy.

Food, alcohol, larger events, recurring operations, employees, vehicles, unusual activities or detailed venue contracts may need a hands-on review instead.

Eligibility, coverage, limits, endorsements and certificate options depend on the business, event and policy selected. Compare the issued policy and certificate options with the organizer or venue requirements before relying on them.

COMMON EVENT NEEDS

Event insurance for local vendors, markets and festivals

Vendor & Market Insurance

Farmers markets, craft fairs, outdoor markets, food vendors, retail booths and temporary selling locations may require general liability and proof of insurance.

Festival & Race Insurance

Festivals, community events, races and outdoor gatherings can involve venue requirements, participants, spectators, vendors and additional-insured requests.

Wedding & Private Event Insurance

Venues may require liability coverage for weddings, receptions and private gatherings. The right structure depends on who is hosting, what activities are involved and what the venue requires.

Event Professionals

Photographers, planners, guides, instructors, caterers, rental businesses and other event professionals may need annual or short-term coverage tied to the work they perform.

REGIONAL EVENT & VENDOR SEASON

From Truckee and Tahoe to Reno, Carson City and Virginia City, seasonal events create short-term insurance needs.

You got accepted into a market, festival or event and someone asked for proof of insurance. Send the current vendor packet, certificate of insurance (COI) instructions or additional insured requirements so we can work from the actual requirement. Eligible, straightforward operations can start with the Thimble quote above; more involved risks should use the DPIS Business Coverage Review.

Truckee & North Lake Tahoe

Seasonal examples include Truckee Thursdays, Tahoe City Farmers Market, Truckee Certified Farmers Market, Made in Tahoe, Tahoe City Food & Wine Classic, Tahoe City Oktoberfest, Truckee Tahoe Air Show & Family Festival and Truckee Tahoe Gravel.

Recurring markets and summer festivals bring artisan booths, food vendors, makers, pop-ups, photographers, exhibitors and demo operators. These settings often raise liability, certificate of insurance (COI) and additional-insured questions.

Reno & Sparks

Reno River Festival’s Vendor Village has featured more than 130 local and regional artists, crafters and brands. Hot August Nights is a major recurring Reno-Sparks event. Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off welcomes arts, craft and product vendors and considers a limited number of non-rib food vendors.

If you’re looking for Reno event or vendor insurance, the right path depends on what you sell, serve or do and what the organizer currently requires.

Carson City & Carson Valley

Carson Farmers Market runs a seasonal vendor application program. The Nevada State Fair gives accepted vendors information about insurance; Carson Valley Days brings artisans, local businesses and food vendors together in its vendor market.

Main Street Gardnerville’s 2026 Fall Festival materials ask food and beverage vendors for a Certificate of Liability naming Main Street Gardnerville as additional insured. If you need event insurance in Carson City or vendor insurance for a Carson City booth, start with the current organizer packet. For Carson Valley events in Minden or Gardnerville, send that event’s current terms too.

Virginia City

The International Camel & Ostrich Races includes food trucks, craft and artisan vendors, with an official vendor application. Hot August Nights — Virginia City has its own vendor program, and its posted vendor terms require vendors to carry their own liability insurance.

Virginia City vendor insurance can be an urgent, event-specific request. Check the current terms for the exact event and date rather than assuming another event’s policy will fit.

South Lake Tahoe & Meyers

Tahoe Brewfest’s vendor and artisan marketplace brings together food vendors, artists, local makers and small businesses. El Dorado County lists the South Lake Tahoe Certified Farmers Market, Ski Run Farmers Market and Meyers Mountain Market as seasonal markets.

South Lake Tahoe event and vendor coverage should reflect whether you attend one market date or operate repeatedly through the season.

Vendor insurance

Coverage for the work you perform as an artisan, food booth, food truck, photographer, maker, exhibitor or temporary service provider. Your policy needs to match your own operations and the organizer’s requirements.

Event host / organizer insurance

Coverage for the entity producing or hosting the event, including its own responsibilities and contracts. A vendor is not automatically insured as the event host, and a vendor policy does not necessarily cover the event itself.

Event names are regional examples only and do not imply sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation with Donner Pass Insurance Services or the event organizers. Event calendars, applications and insurance terms can change. Always use the current organizer, venue or vendor packet when requesting coverage.

WHAT TO SEND US

A few details usually tell us where to start.

Helpful information includes the event date and location, what you will be doing, estimated attendance, whether alcohol is involved, whether you are a host or vendor, and any insurance requirements from the venue or organizer.

Already have a venue contract or insurance requirement?

Send it with the event details. A venue’s required limits, additional-insured wording or certificate instructions can determine the fastest route.

EVENT INSURANCE FAQ

Common event insurance questions from Truckee, Tahoe, Reno and Northern Nevada vendors.

Do I need insurance to vend at a Truckee or Tahoe event?

Organizer and venue rules vary. A market or festival may ask for liability coverage, a certificate of insurance (COI), limits or additional-insured wording. Send the current acceptance email or vendor packet so we can compare the requirement with the coverage available.

Can I buy one-day event insurance?

Some eligible businesses and activities may fit a short-term online option. Thimble does not fit every event or risk; the activity, policy terms and organizer requirements still need to line up.

What if the organizer asks for a certificate of insurance?

A COI summarizes coverage; it does not change the policy. Compare the issued policy and certificate options with the organizer’s current requirements before relying on them.

What does “additional insured” mean?

It is a policy status that may be available only when the policy and applicable endorsement support it. Send the exact entity name and wording requested; a certificate alone does not add that status.

What if I sell food or alcohol?

Food preparation, alcohol, employees, vehicles, cooking equipment and mobile operations can change the risk. See our restaurant and hospitality insurance guidance for recurring food operations, and use the Business Coverage Review instead of assuming the quick online path will fit.

What if I attend a farmers market every week all summer?

Recurring dates may call for a broader seasonal business insurance policy rather than separate one-day purchases. We can compare the schedule, locations and organizer requirements with the coverage you need for the rest of your operation.

Do I need different insurance as the event organizer?

Usually the organizer and each vendor have different responsibilities and exposures. The event host or entity producing the event should review its own special event liability needs; a vendor policy should not be treated as coverage for the whole event.

SHORT-TERM OR ONGOING?

Some event risks need a one-off solution. Others belong on a business policy.

A one-day event, recurring summer market schedule and year-round event business are not the same insurance problem. Some eligible small businesses and event professionals may qualify for quick online coverage, while more complex operations may need a broader review.
